Avila Beach: Local Attractions

Spa | Bike Rental | Coffee | Water Activity
Land Activity | Food | Golf

Avila is a quaint town of just under 300 residents, covering an area of only four square blocks. It faces the south, and as a result, is the Central Coast's warmest beach. Our Avila Beach hotel is ideally located near world-class attractions and activities.

Spa: You're on vacation, so what better way to spoil yourself then with a massage? The Nekkidd Day Spa, located just a half block from the Inn at Avila Beach, is the first all organic day spa on the Central Coast. The spa offers a variety of services, from massages, to facials, to waxing. Our front desk staff with happily book you an appointment with the spa. If you are a guest at the Inn, you can receive free spa upgrades.

Bike Rentals: Also located at the Nekkidd Day Spa desk, is Joe Momma's Bike Rentals. Here you can rent a beach cruiser, and adventure to the Bob Jones Trail. This famous trail is a landmark when it comes to Avila Beach. Overlooking the local golf course and the cottonwood clad creek, the Bob Jones Trail hosts many outdoor walkers, runners and bikers alike. The views of different wildlife here is plenty rich on the ground and in the air. So rent a bike from Joe Momma's Bike Rentals, and adventure down the trail.

Coffee: Before you get your daily cardio workout in, stop at Joe Momma's Coffee to get your daily caffeine intake. This third wave coffee shop is arguably the best on the Central Coast. Serving award winning coffee, espresso, smoothies, chai, and tea, you will never want to return to a chain coffee shop after you have treated yourself here. Pull up a chair and talk with any of their friendly, local customers, and pick their brain on what their favorite thing to do is in Avila.

Water Activity: For the more adventurous, give SLO Coast Kayaks a call. Whether you want to take a professional guided tour around Avila's Fossil Point, or take your own adventure around the ocean, SLO Coast Kayaks is the place to call. If you want to bring your own kayak, SLO Coast Kayaks rents life jackets, paddles, booties, and much more.

If you're a beginner and want to become an expert before you adventure out into the Pacific Ocean, Central Coast Kayaks offers an array of classes. From learning how to kayak, to surf kayaking, Central Coast Kayaks is "where paddlers meet."

Want to feel like a local, and catch some fresh fish for your family dinner up on our sundeck? Patriot Sportfishing charters full day or half day fishing boat rides. You can bring your own gear, or rent some of theirs for an additional cost. Or you could be the independent fisherman that you are and just fish off the Port San Luis dock.

If you don't feel like chasing the fish yourself, you can just buy some freshly caught fish. BJ's Live Seafood, located on the Hartford Pier, is an outside market, consisting entirely of fish tanks! Freshly caught fish is yours for the buying; buy some fish and bring it up to our sundeck to grill.

Land Activity: If your looking for the kind of adventure to stay on land, consider the Lighthouse Trolley Tours. Every Saturday you can take a tour of the Point San Luis Lighthouse. This secluded lighthouse can't be seen from Avila's beach, so a designated tour is needed to experience this unique landmark.

Food: If you don't feel like chasing the fish yourself, you can just buy some freshly caught fish. BJ's Live Seafood, located on the Hartford Pier, is an outside market, consisting entirely of fish tanks! Freshly caught fish is yours for the buying; buy some fish and bring it up to our sundeck to grill.

Also located at the last pier is Fat Cat's. Don't let the name fool you, but this place will fatten you up with their hardy, delicious portions. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Fat Cat's offers views of the Pacific Ocean that are unmatchable.

Located in the Avila Promenade, is the Old Custom House. Newly renovated, just like Avila Beach itself, this restaurant offers fresh, locally caught seafood and steak. This Avila Beach favorite serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has indoor or outdoor seating.

Right next door, is Avila's only bar. Mr. Rick's, which is also connected to the Old Custom House, often hosts live music during the summer's Avila Farmer's Market and holiday weekends.

Feel like eating as if you were a little south of the border? Behind the Custom House and Mr. Rick's, is the absolute best place to get Mexican food around. The Taco Shack, the newest establishment in Avila, prepares the freshest tacos, burritos, and salads around. They do not disappoint. Grab your order to go, take it up to our sundeck, and bask in the sun's rays as if you were south of the border. [Minus the border patrol of course!]

Also located on Front Street is the Avila Grocery store. They have everything a traditional grocery store has, along with a great deli in the back.

Golf in Avila Beach

Located down the street from us is the Avila Beach Golf Resort. This par 71, 6,500 yard championship golf course has majestic views of the surrounding hills and the Avila Bay.

Just a few miles north and south of Avila Beach, are golf courses in San Luis Obispo, Nipomo, Paso Robles, Grover Beach, Morro Bay, and Arroyo Grande. We often receive discounts from these surrounding golf courses, so be sure to ask the front desk what specials the golf courses are hosting.
